You’ll hear people say there’s no bigger accomplishment for a woman than to become a mother. You’ll hear them say motherhood is the best part about being a woman. It’s all true. You only find out just how much you can love another person once you have a baby.
But if someone tells you that being a mom is only rainbows and sunshine, please grab a heavy book and slap them in their face in the name of all mothers out there. Being a mom is the hardest job on the planet. Again, I’m not saying it’s not all worth it. But it’s hard. There’s a whole other side of motherhood that won’t make it on a Hallmark card anytime soon.
As a mother, you’re constantly tired. Having time to yourself is so rare that you start fantasizing about it. There’s always somebody that comes before you: your children. You always have to put their needs before your needs. And that’s not always fun, because it sometimes means you have to give up buying unnecessary stuff you used to like buying, like overpriced shoes and bags.
Also, you are constantly under stress because you’re always worrying about something bad happening to the most important people in your lives. And that’s exhausting. As a mom, it’s your job to keep another human being alive. Add the dirty dishes in the sink, the overflowing garbage, the pile of dirty laundry and the constant pressure to feed everybody in the house, and you’ll get a feel of what it is to be a mom.
